A BOQ should translate a project concept into identifiable materials, quantities and services. This makes it easier to compare what is included rather than comparing only the final total.
For an irrigation project, the BOQ may separate pipe, filtration, valves, emitters, fertigation and installation. A greenhouse project may separate structure, covering, netting, doors, irrigation and crop-support items.
Where a product has model-specific performance, the model or specification should be stated. Where the design is not yet final, that uncertainty should be visible rather than hidden behind a generic item name.
Clarify transport, installation, testing, training, civil work and site preparation so both parties understand the commercial scope.
